DONATIONS
This afternoon, at about 3:30 p.m. the National Committee for the Relief for Haiti received donations in the form of cheques from Toolsie Persaud group of Companies and M&M Snackette, cash and cheques to the amount of $198,000 from various churches and their members. Clothing and cash were also donated by Mr. Aube Khan, concerned citizen, at a simple handing over ceremony at the CDC Headquarters, Thomas Lands.
Minister Priya Manickchand thanked the donors as well as expressed her gratitude for their contributions.
The cheque was presented by Mr. Mohan Harnanan who said, “We share the grief and sorrow of the Haitian nation. We hope this small contribution would help to satisfy some of the basic needs of the people.”
The management and staff of M&M Snackette donated a cheque for the sum of $200, 000 which was presented by M&M staff, Ms. Maxine Mc Pherson.
“We hope that this small token we are giving will help them overcome their grief and sorrow. We, in Guyana are praying most sincerely that God will restore everything and more back to them. It is so bad what the people of Haiti are going through right now. We pray that God will answer our prayers.”
Bishop Edghill donated the sum of $198,000 in cash and cheques on behalf of several churches and their members.
Mr. Ayube Khan, concerned citizen and member of the First Assemblies Church of Princess Street, donated several bags of clothing. He encouraged all Guyanese to “give freely because the people of Haiti really need it”.
