Project Summaries

  1. The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2013project was implemented for the period September – November 2013. This project was initiated to reduce the vulnerabilities of disabled persons to disasters by building on their capacities. The value of this project was $ 1,370,000.00.
  2. The International Day for Disaster Reduction 2014 project was implemented for the period September – November 2014. This project was designed to build resilience to disasters for the elderly reduce their vulnerabilities. The project cost $ 1,600,000.00.
  3. The Technical inputs and funding support for CDC and MHSSS to develop a road map to review, update, train and operationalise Protection Sector EPRP project commenced in September- November  2015. This project developed an updated version of the Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan (October 2015) which was initially created in May 2013. The value of the project was $ 1,400,000.00.
  4. Implementation of Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction Interventions in Riverine Communities in Region 6 is an ongoing project initiated to implement a Disaster Risk Management programme for the region. Thus far there is a Community Based DRM programme in the Orealla/Siparuta communities and a Community-Based Disaster Risk Management Plan. A Community Based DRM Community has also been mobilized with a Community Emergency Response Team.
  5. The International Day for Disaster Reduction 2015project was implemented from September – November 2015. The project focused on Indigenous knowledge and in observance, the CDC displayed work of the Orealla/ Siparuta CBDRM teams in the community where emergency drills were demonstrated. The value of the project was $ 2,000,000.00.
  6. The Production of CBDRM Project Report for Documentation and Experiential Sharing project ran from September – November 2015. This project developed a booklet that highlighted the Orealla/Siparuta community’s work in DRM through the CBDRM programme. The project cost $ 395,864.00.
  7. The Enhancement of Emergency Shelter Capacity to Mitigate Flood Risk in Ordnance Fortlandproject started from March 2016 – April 2018. This project was designed to enhance and equip the Fort Ordnance Primary school as a shelter, to identify a management committee,  and develop and test protocols for activation and management of the emergency shelter. The cost of this project was CAD $ 99,026.00.
  8. Children’s Disaster Risk Reduction Exhibition and Craft Day project ran from June – August 2016. The purpose of this project was to bring awareness to children in critical areas of risk reduction and disaster preparedness. The value of this project was  $ 728,500.00.
  9. The Development of Evacuation Plans and Emergency Checklists for MoSP Facilities project was initiated during the period September – December 2016.  The purpose of this project was to develop an evacuation plan guideline for Children Home’s and Orphanages. The project was valued at $ 3,100,000.00.
  10. The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2016, “Live to Tell Campaign.” was implemented in October – December 2016. The project was intended to bring awareness to CDC’s stakeholders of the challenges, successes and opportunities in DRM over the past 10 years. The project was valued at $ 3,411,500.00.
  11. The Regional Disaster Risk Management Systems, Regions 9 and 10 Project commenced in November 2016 – December 2020. This project utilized the process established by CDC to develop the Regional Disaster Risk Management System for Regions 9 and 10. The cost of the project was EURO €  59,790.00.
  12. The Youth Engagement for Community-Based Disaster Risk Management project was initiated in December 2017 – March 2018. This project aimed to increase awareness and active involvement in DRM among youths for regions 4, 6 and 9. The value for this project was  $ 3,060,000.00.
  13. The Prepositioning of resources for enhancing Regional capacity to provide basic relief to displaced populations in Regions 1,7 & 9 Project commenced in June – September 2018. This was a National response to the influx of Venezuelans that allowed the CDC to distribute hampers to migrants in regions 1 and 7. This project cost $ 6,226,562.00.
  14. The Strengthening Community Based Preparedness and Response in Moraikabai – Region 5 project ran from June 2018 – December 2020. The purpose of the project was to improve capacity to prepare for and respond to priority hazards. It developed a community-specific Multi-Hazard Preparedness and Response Plan, application of community hazard and vulnerability assessments to develop corresponding maps, and established Community Based Disaster Risk Management Committees in the community of Moraikobai, Mahaica/Berbice (Region 5). The project was valued at EURO €  39,407.00.
  15. The Voluntary Emergency Response Team project was implemented in December 2018 and is ongoing. This project aimed at training a cadre of volunteers to extend the work of the CDC, and to support emergency response nationally, and abroad.
  16. The Pilot Programme in Enhancing and Developing Community Hazard, Vulnerability and Capacity Mapping in Baramita (Region 1) project ran from July  – September 2018. This project served to display, track and monitor the community’s hazards and risks by mapping and collecting GIS data. The value of this project was $ 6,804,410.00.
  17. The Enhancement of Socio-Environmental conditions of Venezuelans Migrants through Shelter, Nutrition, and Sanitation Improvements and Capacity Building project commenced in February – April 2019. The purpose of this project was to distribute food hampers, water receptacles and purification tablets amongst other items to Venezuelan migrants in Khan’s Hills. The value of this project was CAD $ 39,000.00.
  18. The Situational Analysis of Influx of Venezuelan Migrants in Regions 1 and 7 Project was implemented in February – July 2019. Through this project, an analysis was conducted to implement interventions designed to provide better service and quality of life for Venezuelan migrants in the target regions. The cost of this project was $ 2,582,000.00.
  19. The Capacity and resilience building for sub-national DRM framework to monitor and respond to Humanitarian situations project was done in November 2019. This project focused on capacity building to develop high-quality maps and geographical outputs. The value of this project was $ 2,494,000.00.
  20. The Strengthening Disaster Management Capacity of Women in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana & Dominica. Component 1.2 Community Based Early Warning Systems project commenced in July 2019 and is ongoing. This project is aimed at enhancing risk-informed decision making and community support to improve the resilience of farmers and women’s farmer groups.
  21. The Disaster Recovery Interventions for Farmers affected by September and October 2019 Spring Tides project commenced in November 2019 and is ongoing. The project was designed to provide farmers in Region 5 with a mechanism for disaster recovery due to flooding in late October 2019. The plan is to continue to increase the resilience of the livelihoods of residents against the impacts of flooding.
  22. The Support to Public Assistance Programme for COVID-19 Response project was implemented in July – August 2020. Through this project, 60 tablets were purchased and used to collect data for the Government’s Public Assistance Programme for COVID-19, as well as subsequent emergency response activities undertaken by the CDC. The value of this project was $ 2,100,000.00.
  23. The Emergency Flood Relief project was initiated in July 2021 and is ongoing.  The purpose of this project is to provide emergency flood relief to hard-hit areas in Guyana during the May- June 2021 floods.
  24. The Assessment and Completion of Rainwater Harvesting for Flood Affected communities project commenced August 2021 and is ongoing. The project aimed to provide the materials and infrastructure for rainwater harvesting in severely affected communities in Region 10.
