The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) today launched their newest Public Service Announcement (PSA) on NCN’s 98.1FM. The audio track, done by Guyana’s very own Timeka Marshall, is the first step in the Commission’s Public Education and Awareness Campaign. The song features an uptempo Caribbean vibe with informative and catchy lyrics.
Nerissa Pearson, 98.1FM’s “Morning Delight” broadcaster interviewed Ms. Marshall and CDC’s Director General, Lieutenant Colonel Kester Craig, on this morning’s show. Ms. Pearson asked about the creative process, volunteerism and why is now the ideal time to rebrand. The Director General indicated that even though CDC accomplishes a vast amount of work countrywide, persons are still unaware of who they are and what exactly they do. This song, along with other upcoming projects, intends to change that for the better. Mr. Craig also mentioned the revamping of the CDC website which is scheduled to relaunch soon.
The interview stressed the importance of knowledge and helping your community, and persons are encouraged to reach out to CDC to report impacts and hazards, and to volunteer their time and effort through CDC’s Facebook page or via the National Emergency Monitoring System (NEMS) on 600-7500.
The track will be played on several radio stations in the near future, and an informative video is set to be released soon as well.
