The CARICOM Disaster Relief Unit (CDRU) recently conducted a Flood Response Training Event as part of EXERCISE TRADEWINDS 2023. The activity was hosted by the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) at their Alternate Emergency Operations Center (AEOC) in Timehri.
There, in conjunction with US SOUTHCOM and CDEMA – Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency, response participants from several Caribbean countries engaged in simulations that mirrored real-life events. The 8-day event showcased first-aid training, casualty response training, and other relevant exercises. The second leg of the CDRU Training occurred in Kwakwani (Region 10) where flood hazard simulations were endured. This aspect tested communications capabilities, logistics gaps and more. The Guyana Defence Force (GDF), an integral component of EXERCISE TRADEWINDS 2023, facilitated many of the activities for this event.
TRADEWINDS 2023 concludes today after several days of training and knowledge sharing between many Caribbean, and North and Central America nations.
