The CDC continues to work with local authorities to ensure that aid is rendered to impacted residents countrywide. Last Friday, some villagers of Goed Fortune received zinc sheets, nails and wood to rehabilitate their homes after heavy rains and high winds affected their living spaces.
Region 3 Vice Chairman, Omesh Satanand, said that assistance of this nature is essential especially during the rainy season. CDC’s Director General, Colonel Nazrul Hussain, indicated that resilience is the goal and vulnerabilities must be eliminated in order to achieve that goal. Resources to “Build Back Better” will be accessible to any resident that has been impacted.
The Commission is monitoring all low lying and flood prone areas during this period and encourages all Guyanese to be cautious. Impacts can be reported to local authorities or the National Emergency Monitoring System (NEMS) on 600-7500 or 226-1114 at any time.
