Georgetown, Guyana – A UN Emergency Task Team; which comprised of representatives from UN Guyana, UNHCR and IOM, met yesterday with top CDC officials to discuss supportive efforts in the event of flood impacts in the future.
Talks also covered UN flood contingency plans and how they can be aligned with national plans formulated by the CDC. Additionally, coordination to support the Venezuelan migrants settled in several areas countrywide was streamlined, as it is a priority for all agencies involved.
The Commission was represented by its Director General Col. (Ret’d) Nazrul Hussain, Deputy Director General Lt. Col. (Ret’d) Mark Thomas, and Preparedness and Response Manager (ag) Major Lakshman Persaud. The UN team consisted of Eraina Yaw – IOM, Alexandre Lopes – UNHCR, and Will Evans – UN Guyana.
